Character is about excellence as a whole human being in every aspect of one's life. It's about being the best person one can be - being all God created us to be. A focus on excellent moral character naturally begets practicing ethics in each discipline.
Our goal is to help form hearts and minds out of which flow acts of human excellence, acts of virtue. The Wendt Initiative, in particular, aims to help students, faculty, and staff at the University of Dubuque become people of integrity, justice, and compassion. Additionally, we believe ethics also play a vital role in achieving our mission to "foster intellectual understanding of and personal commitment to leading lives of purpose and excellent moral character." An understanding of ethics provides a firm and common foundation on which to build character. Observing ethics within one's discipline puts character into practice. Below are resources on ethics and character development across various disciplines.
