Degree Basics

  • All students seeking a bachelor degree from the University of Dubuque must earn a minimum of 120 credits.
  • A student's degree is composed of general education requirements, major requirements and possible elective credits.
  • In order to remain in good academic standing and graduate from the University of Dubuque, students must earn a minimum 2.00 cumulative and major GPA.
  • 12-16 credits is considered full-time status for the fall and spring semesters.

General Education Requirements

Students are encouraged to take ownership of their degree and course requirements while at UD. The General Education Worksheet lays out the general education requirements that must be met by all students, no matter what major is declared.

In addition to the general education worksheet, we encourage students to review their advising worksheet regularly. The Advising worksheet is an electronic form that shows students, according to their declared major(s) or minor(s), what requirements have been fulfilled and what requirements still need to be completed. The advising worksheet can be found in MyUD.

** The Academic Catalog provides degree policies and requirements, as well as specific core, major and minor requirements.

Center for Advising and Vocation: Lower Level Peters Commons

Academic Year Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Summer Hours:
Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. & Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The Center offers both walk in hours and scheduled appointments. For general advising questions, walk in hours are available Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm during the week before a term begins through the full-term add/drop period. Walk in hours will also be available during the week before and of the last day to withdraw from a full-term class.

When the walk in hours conclude, students will need to schedule a meeting to be seen by an advisor.

Schedule an Appointment

Students can schedule an appointment by logging in to: http://dbq.mywconline.com. If you have a UD email but have never used the program, you will first need to register for an account. You can then view all advisors' availability by selecting the "Advising" schedule from the drop-down menu. This is the same program used by the ASC for scheduling tutor appointments.
